Beckett Directs Beckett: Krapp's Last Tape
"Perhaps my best years are gone. When there was a chance of happiness. But I wouldn't want them back. Not with the fire in me now. No, I wouldn't want them back"
Krapp's Last Tape is one of Samuel Beckett's major plays. A meditation on creativity and death it balances despair with the blackest of humour and calls for a tour de force performance from its solo actor. The San Quentin Drama Workshop is proud to present this masterpiece in a production directed by Beckett and performed by Rick Cluchey.
Rick Cluchey founded the San Quentin Drama Workshop in 1958 while serving a life sentence. When granted parole he took the workshop out of the prison and continued its work. In 1974 he met Samuel Beckett with whom he remained in contact until his death, Beckett directing the company in a number of productions. He has dedicated his life to the SQDW and the works of Beckett and is touring the world with this anniversary production of Krapp's Last Tape which will also be performed for prisoners at Barlinnie Prison.
These Tron performances will be the only Scottish dates open to the public and offer a stunning opportunity to witness an actor closely associated with Beckett, in a play and a staging directed by the playwright himself.
