Highland Heartbeat
Highland Heartbeat is an upbeat new television music special, filmed at a one-night-only exclusive concert at the Theatre Royal, hosted by Fiona Kennedy.
The show, with a unique blend of traditional Scottish and popular music, will feature an outstanding cast of established singers and musicians together with up-and-coming talent discovered in Scottish X factor-style auditions earlier this year.
The TV special will be filmed at the Theatre Royal, Glasgow, on Wednesday 13 August for broadcast coast to coast on America’s PBS network of 354 channels from December this year.
To highlight and celebrate Homecoming Scotland 2009, part of the show will feature songs by Robert Burns. In a departure from writing songs for Faith Hill, Shania Twain and Bonny Raitt, American singer songwriter Beth Nielson-Chapman has written ‘The Kist’, a song reflecting the mass emigration to the new world.
The show includes graduates from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, a BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year finalist, a Gaelic Mod gold medallist, TNT (The New Tradition) and the award-winning Inverclyde Junior Choir.
